Athletics: Five Cadets named to GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – This year's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship teams have been announced and five Norwich student-athletes were selected to represent the Cadets and Norwich University in their respective sports.

The All-Sportsmanship team was established to honor one player from each team in the conference for outstanding dedication to sportsmanship and for their portrayal of good sportsmanship, fair play, and a positive attitude.

For men's cross country, senior Connor Lafontaine (Tolland, Conn.) was selected. Lafontaine finished up his senior year by helping the Cadets win their third GNAC Championship in a row and 10th title in program history.

Senior Darby Smith (Northfield Falls, Vt.) was named as the representative for the Norwich women's soccer team. Smith started 13 of the 15 games played by the Cadets this year at the fullback position.

Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) has been selected from the Norwich volleyball team. The junior setter led the Cadets with 630 assists on the year, the third highest single-season total in program history.

The women's cross country team is represented by senior Melissa Hango (Berkshire, Vt.) who helped lead the team to their second consecutive GNAC championship victory this year, and their third title in the last four seasons.

Matt Hilton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) rounds out the award winners. The junior midfielder from the men's soccer team started 18 of the Cadets' 20 games this season, helping the team to an 11-4-5 record and an appearance in the GNAC Championship.
