Baseball: Norwich Splits Doubleheader With Richard Stockton

COCOA BEACH, Fla. - The Norwich University baseball team broke into the win column with its first victory of the 2008 campaign on Sunday as the Cadets split a doubleheader with Richard Stockton. The Cadets lost the opener, 6-0, but rallied with a 9-8 win in the nightcap.

Norwich (1-7) was held to just three hits in the opener as it was shutout, 6-0. Jim Kiritsy, Rob Knox and Dom Sorrentino led the NU offense with one hit apiece. Tim O'Connor fired five innings and gave up just three runs, but he suffered the loss on the mound for the Cadets.

Norwich's offense exploded in the second game with nine runs. O'Connor paced the attack, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Sorrentino went 2-for-3 as well, while Kory Delehanty was 1-for-1 and reached base four times. Ian Caird got the victory on the hill, as the freshman pitched 5.2 solid innings.

The Cadets return to action on March 29, when they travel to Providence, R.I., to take on GNAC rival Johnson & Wales in a conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for 1 p.m.
