Baseball: Norwich Ends Season with 15-11 Loss To Vermont Tech

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University baseball team wrapped up its 2008 spring slate on Friday afternoon, dropping a wild 15-11 decision to visiting Vermont Tech at Garrity Field.
The Cadets were led by James Ramsay, who went 4-for-6 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Rob Knox chipped in with a two-run double, and three runs scored. Dominic Sorrentino went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs, while Jim Kiritsy and Kyle Jolin each rapped out two hits apiece. David Wygonski added three runs batted in for NU.
Calvin Russell paced the Vermont Tech offense, going 5-for-6 with three doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored. Jeff Savage went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Brennon Barnard went 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Vermont Tech scored one run in the first inning, but Norwich came right back with one of its own in the bottom half of the frame to tie the score at 1-1. The Cadets took a 2-1 lead with another run in the second inning, but Vermont Tech broke through for five runs in the top of the third to jump out to a 6-2 lead. The Green Knights added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to assume a 10-4 lead after five frames.
Norwich (4-25) battled back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to trim Vermont Tech's lead down to 11-8, but that was as close as the Cadets would get.
Jason Nickerson suffered the loss on the mound for Norwich as the senior allowed 11 earned runs on 13 hits over six innings.
Russell got the win for the Green Knights, yielding just five earned runs on six hits over five-plus innings.
