Football - Sturgis earns ECAC award

CENTERVILLE, MASS. – Norwich University senior offensive lineman Rob Sturgis (Holden, Mass.) was placed on the second team of the East Coast Athletic Conference Division III North all-stars, released Jan. 10.

Sturgis adds the all-ECAC accolade to D3Football.com all-East Region, Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and New England Football Writers Association all-region awards.

He helped lead a front line that blocked for the ECFC's top and NCAA Division III's sixth-ranked rushing attack (303.7 ypg). Sturgis and his teammates also surrendered only .45 sacks per game which was among the top five in the nation.

Norwich closed the 2011 season at 7-4. The Maroon and Gold captured the school's second ECFC title in the last three years and advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in program history.
