NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Freshman kicker Clyde Tamburro (Elizabethtown, Pa.) of the Norwich University football team was named the New England Men's & Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Tamburro stayed perfect as a collegiate kicker, connecting on a 24-yard field goal and also hitting his lone point-after-attempt in a 17-10 loss to St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon.
He is now 3-for-3 on field goals this year and 3-for-3 on point-after-attempts as well to continue to maintain his team-point lead with 12 on the season.
He ranks second among NEWMAC kickers in points, trailing only WPI's Spencer Harrington, who has 13. Tamburro leads the conference in made field goals this season.
Tamburro is the first NU football player to earn a weekly honor from the NEWMAC as the Cadets are in their inaugural season with the brand-new conference.
Norwich wraps up non-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 16 when it travels to intrastate-rival Castleton University in a non-conference matchup and the ninth all-time Battle for the Maple Sap Bucket game. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Spartan Stadium in Castleton, Vt.
