Two Men's Basketball Players Earn All-GNAC Recognition

Northfield, VT - Norwich Men's Basketball senior forward Rene Cheatham has been named to the 2007 All-GNAC first team and junior guard Jerrold Williams has been named to the All-GNAC second team.

Cheatham led the Cadets in scoring and rebounding for the 2006-07 season, averaging 18.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per contest. Cheatham finished his collegiate career with 1,450 points and 731 rebounds, which respectively places him sixth on the GNAC career scoring list and second on the GNAC career rebounding list. In conference regular season games, Cheatham logged 946 points and 493 rebounds, which also respectively places him at sixth on the GNAC regular season scoring list and second on the GNAC regular season rebounding list.

Joining Cheatham on the All-GNAC first team is GNAC "Player of the Year" Jim Bayne of Western New England, GNAC Rookie of the year Bryan Rouse of Emerson, Johnson & Wales guard Japhet Kerr and Suffolk guard John Murphy.

Williams was the second-leading scorer for Norwich with 13.3 points per game and he led the Cadets in three-point baskets with 48. Williams recorded a season-high 25 points in an 86-52 home win over Daniel Webster on January 18 and was named as the GNAC Player of the Week once during the season. Williams led Norwich in scoring in 10 games throughout the 2006-07 season.

Joining Williams on the All-GNAC second team is Emerson guard Will Dawkins, Emmanuel guard Rob Williams-Hinton, Emmanuel forward Mack Spellman, Rivier guard John McMahon and Rivier forward Jeff Carpenter.

The All-GNAC third team is comprised of Albertus Magnus sophomore Bobby Leonzo, Johnson & Wales forward Tirone McCray, Emmanuel forward Brian Lindsey and WNEC guards Asif Abdul-Wadud and Matt Maynard.

Western New England Head Coach was tabbed as the GNAC "Coach of the Year" after leading his team to the regular season title.

The Cadets finished the season with an overall record of 13-12 and a 9-7 mark in conference play.
