PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Norwich University men's basketball team lost a 91-54 contest at Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University on Sunday.
The Cadets have lost six-straight games, falling to 7-15 overall on the year and to 4-11 against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents. The Wildcats move to 13-9 on the year and to 13-3 versus league foes.
Junior Darius Bryant (Calhoun Falls, S.C.) scored 10 points and tallied six rebounds, leading the Cadets in both categories. Classmate Ryan Fitzgerald (Winchester, Mass.) posted eight points in 18 minutes off the bench, finishing second on the team in point scoring.
Down by a 5-2 margin in the early goings, Bryant poured home a three-point basket to even the score at five only 2:46 into the contest. Several extended Wildcats scoring runs, including two streaks of 12 and 11 point scoring stretches, created a 21-point lead, 38-17, with 2:22 left in the opening 20 minutes.
Norwich committed 18 miscues in the entire game and, in the first half, the Wildcats scored 18 points off of Cadets turnovers. In the second half, Johnson & Wales increased its lead to 40 points with two minutes remaining in regulation time and never looked back, ending the contest with a 91-54 advantage.
Edson Dascy posted 20 points for the Wildcats, pouring home four three-point baskets. Four of the five starters for Johnson & Wales tallied at least 13 points – as a team, the Wildcats were 37-for-67 from the floor, shooting 55.2% while making 11 three-point field goals on the afternoon.
The Cadets will wrap up their home schedule this Tuesday, Feb. 14 against Johnson & Wales at 7:30 p.m. in Andrews Hall.
