Men's Ice Hockey: Rick Cleaver Named ECAC "Player Of The Week"

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Norwich University men's hockey star Rick Cleaver was selected as the ECAC "Player of the Week" on Tuesday for the second time this season. The senior from Parksville, B.C., turned in a pair of strong performances last weekend as the Cadets swept Tufts and Connecticut College on the road.
Norwich (10-3-0, 6-1-0 ECAC East) defeated Tufts, 7-1, on Friday night and skated past Connecticut College, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon. Cleaver scored a goal and added an assist in both games, giving him a team-leading four points last weekend.
NU entered the weekend in fourth place in the ECAC East standings, but the Cadets' two victories, coupled with some key losses and ties by Babson, Southern Maine and New England College, helped them vault into first place.
Despite missing both games of the Times Argus Invitational earlier this month, Cleaver leads NU in goals (13) and points (22). Cleaver won the ECAC "Player of the Week" following the first weekend of the season, when Norwich split a pair of games with Southern Maine and Salem State.
Sophomore goaltender Ryan Klingensmith was also honored by the ECAC this week as he was named to the ECAC "Honor Roll" after his strong performance in net versus Connecticut College. The Morton, Pa., native stopped 24 of 25 shots in leading NU to a 6-1 win over the Camels.
For the season, Klingensmith sports a 3-0-0 record with an impressive .932 save percentage and a stingy 1.64 goals-against average.
The Norwich men's hockey team, ranked No. 11 in this week's USCHO poll, will return to action this weekend when the Cadets take on No. 13 Babson (Jan. 18) and UMass-Boston (Jan. 19). Both games can be heard on the radio (WDEV AM 550 FM 96.1) and on the internet (http://www.cadetsradio.com/). Longtime Norwich broadcaster George Commo will handle play-by-play duties for all four contests.
