Men's Ice Hockey: St. Norbert Skates Past Norwich, 3-0, In NCAA Semifinals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -Tyler Allen, Steven Sleep and Matt Boyd each scored goals, and Kyle Jones stopped all 26 shots that he faced to lead St. Norbert to a 3-0 victory over Norwich in an NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Semifinal contest Saturday afternoon at Herb Brooks Arena.
The Cadets finish their 2007-08 season with a final overall record of 23-7-0. The 23 victories are the most in a season for NU since it compiled a 24-4-0 overall record in 2004-05.
St. Norbert (26-1-4) opened the scoring at the 3:05 mark of the first period as Allen netted his 11th goal of the season off an assist from Sleep. The Green Knights extended their advantage to 2-0 at 9:52 of the first period as Sleep tallied his seventh goal of the year off assists from Marc Bellanger and Allen.
St. Norbert held an 8-6 edge in shots on goal during the opening stanza.
St. Norbert added to its lead in the second period when Boyd scored a power play goal at the 12:52 mark. Boyd's goal, his 17th of the season, was scored when he corralled a rebound and beat Norwich goaltender David Thompson with a quick wrist shot. Shane Wheeler, who unloaded the initial shot, was credited with an assist on the play. Belanger was also credited with an assist.
Norwich actually outshot St. Norbert, 9-6, in the second period, but the Cadets were unable to get anything past the Green Knights' All-American goaltender Kyle Jones.
NU turned up the pressure in the third period, outshooting St. Norbert by an 11-5 margin, but the Cadets could not solve Jones, as the Green Knights secured the victory.
Norwich outshot St. Norbert, 26-19, for the game. Thompson made 16 saves for the Cadets.
