Men's Ice Hockey: Norwich Hammers Wesleyan, 8-0
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Freshman forwards Colin Mulvey and Blake Forkey each scored a pair of goals, and senior G Ryan Klingensmith made 12 saves as the No. 2-ranked Norwich University men's ice hockey team shut out Wesleyan University, 8-0, in an ECAC East-NESCAC Interlock game Friday evening at Kreitzberg Arena.
Norwich (13-0-3, 9-0-1 ECAC East) scored four power play goals on the night as the Cadets just continue to roll along.
Mulvey opened the scoring at the 2:00 mark of the first period off a feed from senior F Craig Serino. NU extended its advantage to 2-0 in the final minute of the first period when Serino netted his third goal of the season off feeds from senior D Eric Tallent and senior F D.J. Fimiani.
The Cadets scored two power play goals in the second period to make it 4-0 after 40 minutes. Freshman F Blake Forkey scored on the man-advantage off a couple of nice passes from junior F Chad Anderson and sophomore F Emmond Bell at the 7:52 mark. Tallent then scored his own power play goal at the 12:24 mark off a feed from freshman F Kyle Thomas.
Norwich poured it on in the third period, scoring four more goals to provide the final margin. Forkey got things going at the 1:02 mark when he netted his team-leading 12th marker of the season off an assist from Bell. Bell then scored his sixth of the year on the power play off a pass from Anderson at the 4:20 mark. Sophomore F Tim Houston potted his third of the year at the 17:11 mark off feeds from Mulvey and Thomas. Mulvey then capped the scoring at the 18:54 mark when he netted a power play goal off assists from freshman F Matt McCann and senior D Steve Coon. It was Mulvey's seventh goal of the campaign.
Norwich went 4-for-8 on the power play, while Wesleyan was 0-for-8 with the man-advantage. The Cardinals enjoyed a five-minute power play and a two-minute two-man advantage, but could not score.
NU outshout Wesleyan 37-12 in the contest. The Cardinals fall to 5-8-0 (2-7-0 NESCAC) on the season.
