NASHUA, N.H. - The Norwich University men's ice hockey team responded to its first tie in 10 games in with an offensive explosion for nine goals to down Daniel Webster 9-1 on Friday night in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
Senior forward William Pelletier (St. Jean Chrysostome, Quebec) recorded five points, including a goal and two assists on the first three goals to help stake the Cadets to an early 4-0 lead after the first period. Pelletier scored at the 14:37 mark to become the 48th player in NU men's ice hockey history to reach the 100-career-point milestone.
Senior forward Anthony Flaherty (South Boston, Mass.) had a goal and three assists, while freshman Christian Thompson (Windham, N.H.), senior Tyler Piacentini (South Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Kevin Salvucci (Plymouth, Mass.) each had two goals and an assist to round out the Cadets; offensive leaders.
Thompson scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in the game as Norwich swept the season series vs. Daniel Webster by 9-1 scores in each meeting.
Junior Braeden Ostepchuk (Lethbridge, Alberta) improved to 9-0 in goal making seven saves in 40 minutes for Norwich, while freshman Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France) made three stops in third period relief for his first collegiate action.
No. 2-nationally ranked Norwich (14-1-2, 9-1-0 NEHC) improved to 10-0-1 in its last 11 games. The Cadets outshot Daniel Webster 51-10. Anthony D'Urso made 42 stops for Daniel Webster.
NU went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Daniel Webster was 1-for-4.
Pelletier became the first player since Travis Janke '14 to reach the 100 career point milestone. He has 45 goals and 57 assists for 102 points in 70 games.
Norwich continutes it road trip on Saturday when it takes on Southern Maine at 4 p.m. in Gorham, Maine.
