Men's Lacrosse: Norwich Ends Season With 19-5 Victory Over Daniel Webster
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Kevin Young and Kyle Marzeoti each scored four goals apiece, and Tyler Woods added three goals and three assists as the Norwich University men's lacrosse team finished its 2009 season with a convincing 19-5 victory over Daniel Webster College Tuesday afternoon at Howard Field.
Frank Candelmo chipped in three goals and one assist for the Cadets, while Tyler Nicoll had two goals and one assist.
Marzeoti set the tone for the game, scoring just 35 seconds into the first period to give Norwich an early 1-0 lead. Woods and Patrick Sikora both scored in a span of 13 seconds later in the opening frame to give the Cadets (4-9) a 3-0 lead at the 10:31 mark.
Daniel Webster (2-8) got on the scoreboard at the 8:08 mark when Ryan Manning scored. Young's first goal made it 4-1, but DWC's Andy Smith made it 4-2 moments later. That was as close as the Eagles would get, though, as Norwich held Daniel Webster without a goal for the next 28:02. The Cadets outscored the Eagles, 10-0, during the stretch to establish a commanding 14-2 lead near the midway point of the third quarter.
A seven-goal third quarter gave Norwich a commanding 17-3 lead entering the fourth period. NU head coach Neal Anderson emptied his bench in the final 15 minutes, giving each Cadet who was dressed for the contest a chance to play.
Norwich outshot Daniel Webster by a 51-19 margin. The Cadets won 20-of-28 faceoffs in the game.
