Men's Lacrosse: Wheaton Rolls Past Norwich, 16-4
NORTON, Mass. - Chris Landers tallied five times to lead nine goal scorers during Wheaton 16-4 Pilgrim League men's lacrosse victory over Norwich on Saturday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.
The Lyons improve to 4-6 overall (4-1 Pilgrim) with the win, while the Cadets fall to 2-7 (0-5).
Landers tallied a man-up marker just 3:13 into the contest to give Wheaton a lead it did not relinquish, and a 10-0 Lyon run between the second and fourth quarters blew open a four-goal game. Ben Cederberg and Billy McNamara each contributed two goals and three assists, while Mike Harrington turned in two goals and two assists.
Wheaton gained a 4-0 advantage by the 6:08 mark of the opening quarter, tallying the first quartet of markers in a 5:39 stretch. Each team scored twice during the ensuing 8:02, but the Lyons reeled off 10 consecutive tallies in a span of 32:18 to put the game out of reach. Norwich netted the final two goals of the contest, snapping a scoreless drought of nearly 37 minutes when Tyler Woods tallied at 4:03.
Woods notched a goal and an assist for the Cadets, while Kyle Marzeoti scored twice and went 10-for-16 on faceoffs. Nathan Proctor made 15 stops in the Norwich cage.
Norwich returns to action on Monday, April 20, when the Cadets travel to Johnson, Vt., to battle in-state rival Johnson State College in a non-league match. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
