Men's Lacrosse: UMass-Dartmouth Knocks Off Norwich, 15-4

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Andrew Foster scored a game-high four goals and dished out two assists, and Josh Arsenault added two goals and a game-high five assists to lead UMass-Dartmouth to a 15-4 victory over Norwich University in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game Thursday afternoon at Cressy Field.

Austin Ray chipped in two goals and two assists for the Corsairs, who outscored Norwich 8-0 in the second half. Bobby Smith contributed two goals and one assist, while Christian Roberto tallied two goals.

Norwich (1-1) was led by Justin Pearson, who scored two goals. Kyle Marzeoti and Jesse Mattson added goals for the Cadets, while Joe Galante dished out two assists. Tyler Nicoll and Michael White each chipped in one assist apiece for NU.

UMass-Dartmouth (2-2) held a 7-4 halftime lead, and the Corsairs quickly moved in front by four goals when Ray converted a pass from Arsenault with 12:53 left in the third quarter. Arsenault followed with a goal at 10:26, and Roberto, Smith and Stephen Espinola all tallied third quarter markers to make it 12-4 at the end of the frame. Foster scored twice in the fourth quarter and Arsenault potted another goal in the final stanza to close out the scoring for the Corsairs.

UMass-Dartmouth started off quickly, opening up a 6-1 lead after the first quarter. Foster scored twice for UMD, and Smith, Roberto and Ray also netted goals. The Cadets rallied in the second quarter, scoring three times. Pearson scored twice, with his second goal sending Norwich to the locker room at halftime trailing by only three goals (7-4).

The Corsairs outshot the Cadets, 51-18. Cameron Crown made six saves for UMass-Dartmouth, while Ryan Leroux and Nathan Proctor combined to make 12 stops for Norwich. The Corsairs converted 2-of-6 man-up opportunities, while the Cadets were 1-for-7.

Norwich will conclude its season-opening three-game road trip on Wednesday, March 24, when the Cadets travel to Nashua, N.H., to battle non-league rival Daniel Webster College at 4 p.m.
