WINTHROP, Mass. – For only the second time in program history, three members of the Norwich University men's lacrosse team were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference/Corvias with weekly awards.
Junior Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) was selected as the league's Player of the Week, while sophomore Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) was tabbed as the GNAC Goaltender of the Week. Freshman Connor Bourque (Goffstown, N.H.) rounded out the awards announcement, copping the league's Rookie of the Week honors.
Jenkins racked up four goals for Norwich across the previous two games, tallying twice against Mass. Maritime on Thursday, Mar. 16 and replicating the feat against Coast Guard on Saturday, Mar. 18. He also registered three ground balls across the week and posted two caused turnovers against the Bears.
Across 35 games played since joining the team in 2015 as a freshman, Jenkins has scored 48 goals and added 21 assists for 69 points (48-21=69).
Kriger posted 21 saves across two games played for Norwich, making 10 saves in an overtime loss to Mass. Maritime and halting 11 shots against Coast Guard on Saturday. A three-time GNAC Weekly Award winner, Kriger has seen action in 21 career games, making 199 saves and recording a 9.85 goals-against average alongside a save percentage of .516.
Bourque scored his first collegiate goal against Coast Guard on Saturday and notched his first collegiate point, an assist, against Mass. Maritime on Thursday. He also caused a turnover for Norwich on Sunday versus the Bears. Through four games, he has recorded a goal and an assist (1-1=2), picking up two ground balls and causing as many turnovers.
Norwich welcomes Curry to Northfield this Tuesday, Mar. 21 at 5 p.m. on Sabine Field. The game, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 22, was moved up to avoid potential inclement weather.
