PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Norwich University men's rugby team travelled to take on Brown University on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets came away with a 46-27 victory over the Bears.
Norwich carried a 27-7 lead into halftime thanks to first half tries by senior lock Ryan Wagner (Newtown, Conn.), junior flanker Austin Manhey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), junior Taualape Tau (E. Palo Alto, Calif) and senior fullback Anthony Candrilli (Richmond, Va.). Senior flyhalf Keegan Frick (Thornton, Pa.) scored a conversion on Tau's try as well.
In the second half senior scrumhalf Tom St. Pierre (Warwick, R.I.) scored a try that was converted by Frick to stop a 10 point Brown run and extend the Cadet lead to 34-10.
The Bears scored back-to-back tries before Wagner collected his second score of the day to make it 39-20 Cadets and Manhey added his second try minutes later (with a Frick conversion) to stretch the lead to 46-20.
Brown added a late try with less than three minutes to play for a 46-27 final.
The Cadets are next in action on Saturday, September 16th when they travel to face Southern Connecticut State University in their Rugby Northeast conference opener. That match is slated for 3:00 p.m.
