NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's rugby team hosted Roger Williams University in Rugby Northeast action as part of NU Homecoming weekend on Saturday.
The Cadets came away with a convincing 72-7 victory in front of a raucous crowd at the Dog River Rugby Pitch.
Sophomore flanker Nate Rolling (Taylorsville, Utah) and senior lock Ryan Wagner (Newtown, Conn.) scored three tries each in the win while senior scrumhalf Tom St. Pierre (Warwick, R.I.) added two tries.
Wagner got the scoring started in the first half to give NU a 5-0 lead, Rolling and St. Pierre then both scored their first tries of the match (both were converted by Senior flyhalf Keegan Frick (Thornton, Pa.)) to stretch the lead to 19-0.
Rolling added his second of the match to make it 24-0 before Roger Williams got on the board to cut the lead to 24-7. The sophomore wasn't done, as he scored his third try of the half just before intermission. Frick added the conversion for a 31-7 lead at the break.
In the second half Wagner added two more tries (both converted by Frick) while junior wing Yao Dyson (Bristow, Va.), St. Pierre, senior center Blair Woodley (Westport, Conn.) and Frick all added tries. Frick capped the scoring with a penalty kick for the 72-7 final.
