Oct 23, 2007

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's soccer team continued to pile up the individual awards on Tuesday as freshman forward Ryan Boyton was named the league's "Rookie of the Week" and senior goalkeeper Jake Pagragan was tabbed the loop's "Goalie of the Week."

A native of Dunedin, Fla., Boyton earned the conference's rookie award for the second straight week after scoring two goals and adding an assist in the Cadets' 2-0 week. Boyton scored NU's first two goals in the team's 5-0 victory over Lasell on Wednesday, before adding an assist in Norwich's 4-0 blanking of St. Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday.

Boyton, who has been an offensive force all season long for Norwich, ranks third on the team in goals (nine), assists (seven) and points (25).

Pagragan, meanwhile, was perfect in goal for the Cadets, recording both shutouts for NU. Against Lasell, the Richland, Ind., native turned away all three shots that he faced to pick up the win. Then, versus St. Joseph's (Maine), he made four stops to gain the victory.

For the season, Pagragan has recorded a total of five shutouts. Norwich, as a team, has won registered nine blankings.

The Cadets (13-2-1, 8-0-1 GNAC) can wrap up the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the GNAC Tournament in their season finale against Emerson on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Kickoff from Howard Field is slated for 3 p.m.
