Men's Soccer: Norwich Pounds Emerson, 8-1, In GNAC Quarterfinals

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -Drew Dilley and Ryan Boyton each scored two goals, and four other Cadets added markers as the Norwich men's soccer team cruised past Emerson, 8-1, in a GNAC quarterfinal matchup on Sunday afternoon at Howard Field.

The Cadets (15-2-1) got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute when Kyle Przekaza scored off an assist from Chris Rivet. Dilley scored his first goal of the game in the 18th minute when he capitalized off a feed from Rivet.  

Ten minute later, in the 28th minute, Rob Harlow made it 3-0 off an assist from Peter Andrews. Dilley closed out the first half scoring in the 31st minute, when he scored off an assist from Boyton.

The Norwich scoring barrage continued early in the second half when Jason Grupp tallied a goal off an assist from Emmanuel Motaze in the 50th minute. Just three minutes later, Boyton scored his first goal of the game off a feed from Motaze.

Andrews made it 7-0 in the 74th minute when he scored courtesy of an assist from Boyton. Then, after Emerson scored its lone goal, Boyton closed out the scoring with his second tally of the match off an assist from Jon Amell.

Jake Pagragan played the first 70 minutes, making five saves. Norwich dominated the statistics, outshooting Emerson, 26-17, while holding a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Cadets will now play in the semifinals of the GNAC Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 31, against fifth-seeded Suffolk. Kickoff from Howard Field is slated for 2:30 p.m.
