Norwich Blanks Rivier, 9-0, In GNAC Opener

NORTHFIELD, Vt.  - Nine different Cadets scored goals as the Norwich men's soccer team shut out GNAC foe Rivier, 9-0, in the conference opener for both schools. Norwich ups its record to 2-1-0 (1-0-0 GNAC), while Rivier falls to 1-1-0 (0-1-0 GNAC).

Ryan Boyton got Norwich on the board first, scoring at the 11:36 mark off an assist from Rob Harlow. Less than one minute later, the Cadets made it 2-0 as Harlow set up David Strojny's goal at the 12:18 mark.

Jason Bliss added a goal just before halftime when he scored off an assist from Boyton, making the score 3-0 at the 42:29 mark.

The Cadets blew the game open in the opening six minutes of the second half, netting three goals during that time. Harlow began the scoring barrage with a goal at the 50:17 mark. Drew Dilley added a goal just 34 seconds later to put Norwich on top, 5-0. Emmanuel Motaze, who assisted on both goals, chipped in with a goal of his own at the 52:00 mark off an assist from Boyton.

Norwich put together one more scoring flurry, potting three goals in a span of less than two minutes to account for the final margin. Jake Yaris began the spurt, scoring on a penalty kick at the 63:58 mark. Then, at the 65:05 mark, Connor Sweeney banged home an unassisted marker. Forty-six second later, Bobby Begin closed out the scoring, netting an unassisted goal at the 65:51 mark.

Norwich held a whopping 29-7 edge in shots. The Cadets also held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Jake Pagragan, Tim Gompf and Brian Riopelle all saw time in the Norwich goal, and combined for the shutout.

Norwich begins a two-game road swing on Wednesday, Sept. 12, when the Cadets travel to Chicopee, Mass., to take on Elms. The non-league affair is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
