Men's Soccer: Norwich Men's Soccer Team Headed To Argentina
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Coming off one of its most successful seasons ever, the Norwich University men's soccer team will embark on a 10-day trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, from Aug. 1-10.
The Cadets, fresh off a 19-3-1 season and the New England ECAC Championship, are hopeful that this trip will propel them to even greater heights during the upcoming 2008 season. While newcomers and a few returning players will be absent, the trip is scheduled to include fifteen players and the team's three coaches.
Highlights of the trip will include a tour of Boca Juniors Stadium, "La Bombonera", four matches against reserve and youth teams of Argentine professional clubs, an afternoon "cowboy ranching" experience, and attending a professional match between two of the top teams in Argentina-Argentinos Juniors vs. San Lorenzo.
The entire contingent would like to thank the Norwich men's soccer community for its support. The university's administration, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as friends of the soccer program and others have contributed greatly to making this trip a reality.
NU head coach Kyle Dezotell is excited about the upcoming trip abroad.
"This trip will provide a great starting point for our 2008 season," said Dezotell. "We wanted to provide the players with an opportunity greater than simply the wins and losses over the course of a regular collegiate season. We believe this trip will provide our players with memories they will cherish for a lifetime.
"A huge ‘thank you' must go to assistant coach Eric Nordenson, who did much of the work and really helped to organize the trip."
While in Argentina, the team will be providing detailed accounts of their daily activities which will continuously be updated on the men's soccer homepage. Please check back often for updates and stories.
