Men's Soccer: Two Cadets To Play In NEISL Senior All-Star Game
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Norwich University men's soccer standouts Ryan Boyton and Drew Dilley were selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star game, it was announced by the organization.
The game will be played on the campus of Clark University on Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m.
It marks the first time that Norwich head coach Kyle Dezotell has sent players to participate in this event. Dezotell actually played in the game himself following his senior season at Middlebury College.
Boyton and Dilley join Lasell's Zach Gagne as the only three GNAC participants were selected to play. The Norwich pair represents two of the team's nine forwards. Players are selected by the vote of head men's soccer coaches.
Boyton had arguably the most outstanding single season in Norwich and GNAC history this season, as the Dunedin, Fla., native led the league in goals (21), assists (18) and points (60). Boyton, who was an easy choice for GNAC "Player of the Year", had a knack for scoring big goals for the Cadets all season long.
Dilley, who was a first team all-GNAC selection this year, was an offensive fireplug for the Cadets this year. The Lancaster, Pa., native ranked second on the team with 16 goals and 35 points. It was Dilley's hat trick that sparked Norwich to its 6-3 victory over Emerson in the GNAC quarterfinals, spurring the Cadets on their postseason run.
The Cadets finished the 2008 campaign with an overall record of 18-3-1. NU won the GNAC regular season and tournament titles before winning a game in the NCAA Tournament.
