Men’s Soccer: Cadets shutout Rivier 4-0

Luke Gleadle men's soccer action vs. Middlebury

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore Luke Gleadle (Gilbert, Ariz.) scored two goals to lead the Norwich University men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Rivier University on Saturday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Junior center back Matt Mazzola (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored a goal and added an assist, while Carlos Guerra (Mission, Texas) notched two assists to round out the Norwich offensive leaders.

Lozito opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a shot from the left wing off a corner kick from Camilo Estrada (Pawtucket, R.I.) that found its way through traffic through a screen to make it 1-0 Norwich.

Norwich (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) added three more goals in the final 26 minutes to rally behind a yellow card issued to the bench. Gleadle scored his first of the night drilling a low shot through the Rivier wall off an indirect free kick. Guerra tapped the ball forward to pick up his second assist of the year.

Mazzola increased the lead to 3-0 when he headed a corner kick service from Guerra into the left corner of the net. Rivier starting goalkeeper Collin Deyarmin got a piece of the ball, but not enough to keep it out of the net in the 75th minute.

Gleadle capped the scoring with 1:31 left by heading home a long service from Mazzola for his second of the night.

Germano made three saves to pick up his second shutout of the season. Norwich outshot Rivier 23-4.

Norwich travels to Plattsburgh State on Wednesday for a non-conference showdown with the Cardinals at 4 p.m. The Cadets' next home game will be on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. to kickoff Homecoming Weekend 2017.
