NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's soccer team finished its second straight league unbeaten season with a 4-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Saturday night on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Senior forward Ransford Ahenkora (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a goal and an assist for a three-point night to lead Norwich (8-3-5, 6-0-4 GNAC) to the victory and helped wrap up the No. 3 seed for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament.
Guerra opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a penalty kick goal after Albertus was whistled for a foul in the box on Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.). The goal was Guerra's fifth of the season.
Clain increased the lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute with a goal of the year candidate as he buried a shot just under the cross bar on side volley directly off a pass from Luke Gleadle (Gilbert, Ariz.) on the end line.
Estrada added to the lead in the 76th minute with his fifth of the year, rifling a shot past Albertus' Joe Russo from inside the box off a pass from Ahenkora.
Ahenkora capped the scoring in the 88th minute with his second goal of the season, beating the Albertus keeper to the right post.
Junior Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) made three saves to pick up his fifth shutout of the season.
Norwich outshot Albertus Magnus 18-5 for the game and had six corner kicks to the Falcons' one.
Norwich closes the regular season on Monday when it hosts Johnson State at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium. The Cadets then begin their quest for their fifth GNAC Tournament title on Sunday, Oct. 29 when it hosts No. 6 Emmanuel at 1 p.m. on Sabine in the quarterfinal round.
