Men's Swimming & Diving: Norwich Fifth At The New England Championships After Day One

BRISTOL, R.I. - Chris Prybella and Joe Moeller each posted second-place finishes in individual events to help lead the Norwich University men's swimming and diving team into fifth place after the first day of competition at the New England Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday.

The Cadets have racked up 107 points through the first nine events to place within to top half of the field. Keene State leads the way after the first day of action with 235 points. Bentley (168 points), Roger Williams (126), UMass-Dartmouth (119) and Norwich round out the Top 5.

Prybella placed runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 21.93 seconds. Moeller, meanwhile, finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:02.19.

Both swimmers went on to help the Cadets to a pair of Top 4 finishes in relay races as well. Prybella teamed with Pete Bue, Zach Mahoney and Zander Fields to place fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.20). Moeller teamed with Bue, Fields and Simon Hugh to finish runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:43.42).

Elsewhere, Bue placed fifth in the 50 free (22.60) and Hugh finished sixth in the 50 breast (28.92). Kyle Kenia placed seventh in the 500 free (4:55.18), Mahoney took eighth in the 50 breast (29.14) and Kevin Weber was 11th in the 100 butterfly (57.72).

Norwich will continue competition at the New England Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday, Feb. 28, with competition lasting all day.
