Men's Swimming & Diving: St. Michael's Slips Past Norwich, 154-134
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's swimming and diving team dropped a 154-134 decision to visiting St. Michael's College Wednesday afternoon at Goodyear Pool.
The Purple Knights (3-0) and Cadets (1-2) split the 16 events, but SMC picked up 12 second-place showings to help the visitors to the victory.
For the second straight meet, Peter Bue, Joe Moeller and Simon Hugh led the way for Norwich as each swimmer had a hand in three victories in the pool.
Individually, Bue won the 50-yard backstroke in a clocking of 26.26, while Moeller took gold in both the 100-yard butterfly (56.13) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.08) events. Hugh, meanwhile, swept the two breaststroke events, winning the 50-yard discipline (29.35) and the 100-yard race (1:05.66).
The talented threesome teamed with Zander Fields to help the Cadets win the 400-yard medley relay (3:49.82). Bue, Mike Zemanek, Fields and Jake Schaefer later teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:28.47).
Zemanek rounded out NU's list of winners on the afternoon, taking first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:00.84.
Norwich will not return to action until Saturday, Jan. 9, when the Cadets travel to Lewiston, Maine, to swim against Bates and University of New England.
