Apr 1, 2008

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - For the second consecutive week, Norwich sophomore men's tennis player Peter Hooper was selected as the GNAC "Player of the Week" following a pair of dominating performances last week.

Hooper, who has quickly emerged as one of the top players in the conference in his first season with the Cadets, went 2-0 at No. 1 singles last week. He also forged a 1-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.

The Spartansburg, S.C., product helped lead NU to a dramatic 5-4 win over Johnson State last Tuesday. Hooper made quick work in his singles match, defeating Nick Gendron, 6-0, 6-0. He also teamed with Matt Sanford to blank Gendron and Jarryd Audette, 8-0, at first doubles.

In the Cadets' GNAC opener against Johnson & Wales on Saturday, Hooper was the only Norwich player to win a match as he defeated Stuard Fodiman, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.

The Cadets (2-1) will step out of conference on Thursday when they welcome Colby-Sawyer College to Shapiro Field House for a 4 p.m. match.
