WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Norwich University men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North division action.
Norwich (5-3, 0-1) built up a 4-1 lead, but couldn't put the Rams away with the fifth victory and had its five-match winning streak snapped in the process.
Seniors Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) and Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) each won twice to lead the Cadets. Hyte teamed with Dylan Ackerman (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) to take first doubles 8-5 over Francesco Saia and Jacob Duggan. He also made quick work of Saia at No. 1 singles with 6-1, 6-1 victories.
Carter beat Chris Parnagian 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and he also teamed with Tyler Eagan (Verona, N.J.) to win No. 2 doubles 9-8 with a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker.
Cameron Roach beat Ackerman 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles to make it 4-2. The Rams then rattled off victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to steal the victory away. Duggan beat Eagan 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. Clavijo rallied from a 6-4 loss in the first set to beat Beiter 6-0, 6-2 and take No. 5 singles. Greenman won 6-4, 7-6 at No. 6 singles to clinch the win.
Norwich will host Green Mountain on April 19 in its final non-conference match of the season at Shapiro Field House.
