Men's Cross Country: Cadets Begin Fall Slate This Weekend

Aug 29, 2008

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's cross country team kicks off its 2008 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 30, when the Cadets compete at Plattsburgh State.

Fresh off its third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship last season, the Norwich men's cross country team is entering the 2008 season brimming with confidence. The Cadets, who will be looking to win an unprecedented fourth straight league title this fall, return three All-GNAC performers.

Senior Brendan Thompson (10th), junior John Pomeroy (third) and sophomore Zach Charney (fifth) all finished in the Top 10 at the conference meet a year ago, and they will be key to the Cadets' lineup again this season.

In addition to winning the GNAC championship, Norwich also performed well in several other meets throughout the year. The Cadets won the Lyndon State Invitational, besting four other schools. They placed third out of 11 teams at the Panther Invitational hosted by Middlebury College. NU also produced a runner-up showing at the Rivier meet, while also taking third at the Vermont State Meet.

NU head coach Ramsey Pualwan has build a very strong program during his tenure in Northfield, and he has his sights set on winning a fourth straight GNAC crown this year.
