Men's Cross Country: Norwich Takes Fifth At Smith Co-Ed Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - John Pomeroy finished 14th overall, and two other NU harriers placed within the Top 40 to lead the Norwich University men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Smith Co-Ed Invitational on Saturday.  

Pomeroy toured the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 42.20 seconds to lead the Cadets to the finish line. Anson Hastings finished 33rd overall, clocking a time of 18:29.13. Brendan Thompson was the other Norwich runner to place in the Top 40, finishing 37th with a clocking of 18:36.11.

Joe McAteer (19:21.63) and Matt Wagner (19:22.21) rounded out the Cadets' Top 5, finishing 61st and 62nd, respectively.

As a team, Norwich racked up 141 points to finish within the top half of the 13-team field. Coast Guard won the team event, sweeping the Top 5 overall positions and accumulating 15 points.

Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Cadets travel to Middlebury, Vt., to participate in the Panther Invitational.
