MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Norwich University cross country teams competed in the 2017 Vermont State Meet, hosted by Middlebury College on Saturday.
The Norwich men placed second out of six teams with 72 points while the women’s team finished in fourth out of eight teams with 121 points.
In men’s action the Cadets were led by freshman Trenton Shimata (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who placed 13th in 28:37.5. Just behind him were sophomores Ryan English (Frederick, Md.) who finished 15th in 28:40.2 and Colter Sheveland (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who placed 16th in 28:40.9.
Freshmen Christian DeBoer (Hopedale, Mass.) (21st place, 29:24) and Bill White (24th place) 30:21.1 rounded out the top five NU runners.
On the women’s side Norwich was paced by junior Carisa DeKalb (San Diego, Calif.) who placed 14th with a time of 21:19.3. Sophomore Madison Eline (Southampton, Mass.) placed 20th in 21:55 and freshman Paige Roche (Cohasset, Mass.) placed 32ns in 23:09.5. Junior Amy Blair (Fairfax, Vt.) (39th, 23:58.6) and sophomore Hannah Gamsby (St. Albans, Vt.) (30th, 24:16.6) rounded out NU runners in the top 40.
The Cadets are next in action on Saturday, October 7th at the Westfield State James Early Invitational. The women’s contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. while the men’s race is slated for noon.
