Softball: Pine Manor Sweeps Norwich

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Pine Manor scored nine runs against Norwich in both games of a GNAC softball doubleheader to earn a pair of victories, taking the first game, 9-0 in five innings, before winning 9-5 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Pine Manor broke open a 3-0 game with six runs in the fourth inning. Veronica Vozzolo, Martha Vargas, and Angelica Camacho each scored two runs in the win. Winning Pitcher Nicole Vocaturo gave up only one hit and delivered eight strikeouts. Norwich hurler Emily Bean took the loss, giving up nine runs on nine hits.
Game two remained scoreless until the fifth inning when NUscored four runs. The Gators posted three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and then went ahead with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Norwich added one more run in the top of the seventh.
NU's Whitney Grennon went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, while Jazmin Stevens went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. PMC's Courtney Wallace went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and one run. Siobhan Raymond picked up the win for the Gators, while Justine Caron took the loss for the Cadets.
With the losses, Norwich drops to 14-14 (9-11 GNAC). The Cadets will close their regular season on Tuesday with a road venture to Johnson & Wales for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
