Softball: Norwich Rallies Past Concord, 5-2, For First Win Of 2008

Mar 10, 2008

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Norwich softball team bounced back from its 13-5 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas with a 5-2 defeat of Concord University on Monday.

The Cadets (1-1) did not score until a four-run sixth inning helped them take control of the game and they went on to the victory.

Freshman Mackenzie Pratt made her second start of the day, and the first-year performer got her first collegiate victory.

Trailing 2-0 when they came to bat in the sixth inning, the Cadets rallied with three runs. Marley Balasco walked to start the frame, and Whitney Grennon followed with a single. Then, after Lindsey Fickett walked, Lindsay Carey singled to score Balasco. Tiana Gariboldi kept the rally going with a run-scoring single down the third baseline, and Jazmin Stevens drew a bases loaded walk to complete it.

Norwich added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning as Balasco singled and Grennon drove her in with a triple. Then, Grennon scored on a Fickett RBI groundout to short stop.

Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, March 11, when the Cadets take on Northwestern College in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
