Softball: Norwich Sweeps Doubleheader From Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. -The Norwich University softball team continued to play well on Tuesday, sweeping Daniel Webster in a conference doubleheader. The Cadets won the first game, 12-0 in five innings, before taking a 13-1 five-inning decision in the nightcap.
Norwich moves to 12-6 (8-2 GNAC) with the sweep, while Daniel Webster falls to 5-12 (3-6 GNAC).
In game one, NU scored single runs in each of the first three innings, and then erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Each Cadet registered at least one hit in the contest, and all but two scored at least one run.
Jazmin Stevens led the attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Codi Collins, Marley Balasco and Seana Ellsworth each registered two hits and two RBIs apiece to help pace the offense.
Mackenzie Pratt fired five scoreless innings to earn the victory in the circle. She allowed just two hits, while striking out four.
The Cadets wasted little time getting on the board in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the first inning and five more in the second. Norwich added another run in the third, and three more in the fourth to end the game after five innings.
Collins led the offense in game two, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Ellsworth was 1-for-1 with a home run, one RBI and three runs scored. Stevens, Whitney Grennon and Lindsay Carey each rapped out a pair of hits.
Emily Bean got the win in the circle for NU, allowing just one run on six hits over five innings.
Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, April 9, when the Cadets travel to Newton, Mass., to take on GNAC rival Lasell. The conference doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
