Softball: Norwich Splits Doubleheader With Emerson

Apr 13, 2008

BOSTON -Fifth inning home runs by Jazmin Stevens and Marley Balasco broke open a 2-2 ballgame and earned Norwich a 7-3 victory and a split of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Emerson College.

The Cadets (15-13, 11-9 GNAC) had taken a 2-0 second inning lead off Lions' starter Angela Jorgenson.  Lynn Herman was summoned in relief with one out in the second, and held the score until the Lions could tie it with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Emerson rallied for a run in the seventh for the final score.

In the first game, Emerson (16-12, 12-6 GNAC) jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back. The Lions scored four more in the second inning, and after Norwich got two back in the top of the third, Emerson erupted for six runs in the bottom of the inning and one in the fourth. The Lions gave up four unearned runs in the top of the fifth, but held on for the 14-6 five inning victory.

Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, April 16, when the Cadets travel to Lyndonville, Vt., to battle in-state rival Lyndon State at 3:30 p.m.
