Softball: Norwich Drops Season Opener To St. Thomas Aquinas, 13-5

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Norwich University softball team opened its 2008 season with a 13-5 five inning loss to St. Thomas Aquinas on Monday.
Freshman pitcher Mackenzie Pratt took the loss for the Cadets (0-1). She gave up six runs in the first inning, although just one of the runs was earned. She ended up going four innings, giving up all 13 runs, including just five earned runs, on six hits and six walks. NU made six errors behind her defensively.
Emily Bean pitched a perfect fifth inning for the Cadets, giving up no runs or hits.
Norwich scored two runs in the first inning when Lindsey Fickett hit a two-run single. The Cadets added two more runs in the third inning courtesy RBI singles by Fickett and Lindsay Carey.
NU closed out its scoring in the fourth inning when Kerri Ingraham reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jazmin Stevens.
Norwich returns to action later today (March 10), when the Cadets take on Concord College.
