STANDISH, MAINE - The Norwich University softball team fell 4-0 to Suffolk University on Thursday afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Second Round at Saint Joseph's (Maine).
The Cadets (15-20-1) managed just three hits off Suffolk pitcher Ali Yamakaitis and surrendered two runs in the bottom of the third and the fourth to fall to the No. 3-seed Rams.
Norwich will face No. 4-seed Albertus Magnus in the loser's bracket round on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I.
NU got hits from Justina George (Wallingford, Conn.), Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.) and Katie Reid (Gold Canyon, Ariz.). The Cadets also loaded the bases in the top of the second inning, but couldn't push across a run after a batter struck out and then a runner was picked off third base.
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson (Stockbridge, Vt.) went six innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs, five walks and four strikeouts. She fell to 10-8 on the year.
Norwich had its season-high seven-game winning streak snapped in the loss.
Jaclyn Flint and Delaney Sylvester each had two RBIs to lead the Suffolk offense.
