Women's Basketball: Norwich Takes Down St. Joseph's (Maine), 62-57

STANDISH, Maine - Kayleigh Shappy scored a team-high 14 points, and Jess Jaggars notched her third double-double of the season with added 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Norwich University women's basketball team took a 62-57 decision from St. Joseph's (Maine) in a GNAC contest Saturday afternoon.
Ally Daniels collected nine points, six rebounds, two blocks and one steal for the Cadets, who improve to 9-13 (8-3 GNAC) with their fourth straight win. Kylie Cowens chipped in with eight points for NU, while Natalie Marchese contributed a game-high five assists.
Free throws played a big role in deciding the outcome with Norwich connecting on 21-of-26 attempts, and St. Joseph's (Maine) hitting just 7-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Norwich outscored St. Joseph's (Maine), 10-2, to start the game, and the Cadets led 19-12 at the midway point of the first half. NU's lead grew to as many as 11 points in the first half, but the Cadets settled for a 30-22 lead at halftime.
St. Joseph's (Maine) (15-8, 8-4 GNAC) outscored Norwich, 5-2 over the first few minutes of the second half to draw to within 32-27 at the 18:22 mark. A 9-3 spurt by the Cadets increased their lead to 41-30 just two minutes later. Norwich led 49-38 at the 8:55 mark when St. Joseph's (Maine) reeled off a 12-4 run to cut its deficit to three points at 53-50 with 4:25 to play.
Norwich responded by hitting 9-of-10 free throws in the final four minutes to earn the key road victory.
Alysn Ludwig led St. Joseph's (Maine) with a team-high 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds, while Meghan Daigle added 12 points for the Monks.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 21, when the Cadets host Rivier at Andrews Hall. Gametime for the GNAC contest is slated for 7 p.m.
