NORTHFIELD, VT. - The Norwich University women's basketball program has hired Richard Ziegler as an Assistant Coach, it was announced Tuesday. Ziegler will assist Head Coach Mark Zacher in the day-to-day operations of the team.
"I am very excited to hire and welcome Richard Ziegler as the assistant coach for our Norwich University women's basketball program this season," said Zacher. "Richard brings an easily recognizable enthusiasm and passion for the game. He has experience at both the NCAA Division I and Division II levels, where his head coaches have described him as a 'workhorse' who will do 'whatever needs to get done.' Most importantly, Richard is someone who truly wants to be a college basketball coach. I am looking forward to what he will bring to our program, what he can teach our players, and how he will grow in the position!"
Ziegler joins the Cadets from Michigan State University, where he served as a graduate assistant for the 2015-2016 season. During his season at Michigan State, the team went an impressive 25-9 on the year with a 13-5 record within their conference. Before that, Ziegler spent time at Western Michigan University as a volunteer assistant for the 2014-2015 season.
"I would like to thank Coach Zacher and Director of Athletics Tony Mariano for this opportunity to join the Norwich University family," Ziegler remarked. "I'm ecstatic to be a part of this prestigious institution and basketball program. Coach Zacher is a phenomenal leader with vast knowledge of the game and I am thrilled to learn from him and grow."
Ziegler is a 2014 graduate of the University of New Haven where he earned his bachelor's degree in Management of Sports Industries. He's currently working on his master's degree from Michigan State in Kinesiology. He hails from Wildwood Crest, New Jersey.
