Women's Ice Hockey: Cindy Fortin Tabbed ECAC "Rookie Of The Week"

Nov 20, 2007

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - After earning her first career shutout, and leading the Norwich women's hockey team to a 1-0-1 record this past weekend, Cadet freshman goaltender Cindy Fortin was named the ECAC "Rookie of the Week" on Tuesday.

The first-year goalie from Quebec City, Que., stopped all eight shots that she faced versus Plymouth State last Saturday, leading NU to a 4-0 victory over the Panthers. It marked the first career blanking for Fortin.

On Sunday, Fortin was called on to make 31 saves as Norwich erased a 2-0 third period deficit to forge a 2-2 tie at Castleton State.

For the week, Fortin posted a stingy 1.00 goals-against average, a .951 save percentage and 39 saves.

The Norwich women's ice hockey team is idle until Dec. 1, when the Cadets host UMass-Boston at Kreitzberg Arena. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
