Women's Ice Hockey: Manhattanville Defeats Norwich, 7-1

RYE, N.Y. - Danielle Nagymarosi netted a hat trick added an assist as the Manhattanville Valiants defeated the visiting Norwich Cadets, 7-1, in an ECAC East women's ice hockey game Saturday afternoon.

Manhattanville (17-6-0, 15-2-0 ECAC East) took a quick 1-0 lead when Nagymarosi scored at the 1:10 mark of the first period. Monique Rafferty and Natalie Zitek provided the assists on the play as the Valiants jumped on top early. Rafferty made it 2-0 midway through the opening stanza when she scored at the 10:24 mark off of assists from Nagymarosi and Dani Poupart. Amanda Nonis increased Manhattanville's lead to 3-0 at the 12:22 mark when she tallied a power play goal.

Sarah Scardino got Norwich (9-9-2, 6-8-2 ECAC East) on the board late in the first period when the freshman scored a power play goal at the 18:49 mark. Sophie Leclerc and Emily Goff picked up assists on the play as the Cadets trimmed their deficit to 3-1 just before the intermission.

The Valiants outshot the Cadets 17-8 in the opening period, and they carried their 3-1 lead into the second stanza.

Shannon Coffey and Sarah Fullerton added goals for Manhattanville in the second period as the Valiants extended their lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Nagymorosi added her second and third goals of the game in the third period to close out the scoring.

Norwich wraps up its regular season next weekend (Feb. 22-23) when the Cadets host Castleton State and Plymouth State at Kreitzberg Arena.
