Women's Ice Hockey: Norwich Defeats Rhode Island, 4-1, In Final Exhibition Game

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich women's hockey team continued its winning ways as the Cadets defeated the Rhode Island Rams, 4-1, in an exhibition game at Kreitzberg Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Rhode Island opened the scoring in the first period with an even strength goal despite being outshot by the Cadets 11-8 in the period. Norwich evened the score early in the second period when Katie Leupp stuck home a rebound opportunity off an assist from Annie DiVito.
Norwich exploded with three third period goals, including the game winner from junior forward Sophie Leclerc.
Amanda Gage and Shannon McNulty added insurance goals later in the third period as the Cadets cruised to the victory.
Norwich held the play throughout the game, outshooting the Rams 35-21.
NU's freshmen goaltender Cindy Fortin was solid between the pipes for the Cadets, stopping 20 of 21 shots.
Norwich opens its inaugural ECAC regular season games this weekend when the Cadets travel to Plymouth State on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game, before facing Castleton State on Sunday at 3 p.m.
