Women's Ice Hockey: Norwich Skates Past Salve Regina, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -Sarah Scardino scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another to help Norwich defeat Salve Regina University, 3-2, in ECAC Division III Women's East ice hockey action Sunday.
Norwich (8-6-2, 5-5-2 ECAC East) converted two of its seven power-play opportunities, while blanking Salve Regina (6-11-1, 5-7-0 ECAC East) on all four of its chances on the power play.
The Cadets scored twice in the first period on goals from Annie DiVito and Katie Leupp. Salve Regina got one back in the second period with a goal from freshman Sarah Small, but Norwich built the lead back to 3-1 when Scardino scored on the power play at 12:26 of the third.
Norwich outshot Salve Regina, 48-30. Cindy Fortin made 28 saves in the NU goal to earn the victory between the pipes. The freshman goaltender is now 7-6-2 on the season.
NU returns home on Tuesday, Feb. 5, to take on St. Michael's in the inaugural "Tribute to the Troops" game. The Cadets will wear special camouflage jerseys to honor the Norwich graduates who are currently serving overseas.
