Women's Ice Hockey: Norwich To Host "Tribute To The Troops" Night

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - In a show of support to the United State troops that are currently serving our country overseas, the Norwich University women's ice hockey team will hosting the inaugural "Tribute to the Troops" night on Tuesday, Feb. 5, when the Cadets battle in-state rival St. Michael's College at Kreitzberg Arena at 7 p.m.
Norwich head coach Mark Bolding and assistant coach Dana Bean formulated the idea, drawing on NU's heritage as the oldest private military college in the country. Forty-five Norwich University female alums, who are currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, will be honored as their names will be included in the game-day program.
Norwich players will don special camouflage jerseys that they will wear for this game only, and the names of some of those 45 NU alums, who are serving overseas, will be embroidered on the backs of each Cadet jersey.
At the conclusion of the game, the jerseys will be gathered up sent out to that alum whose name is on that particular jersey, along with a note thanking him/her for his/her service and how much it means to us back home.
The military-themed evening will include the Norwich University Color Guard, which will display the nation's colors during the national anthem and a special pre-game ceremonial puck drop.
All Norwich military alums and their families are invited to participate as part of this historic evening.
Tickets for this special event can be purchased at the door or by calling 802-485-2500.
