Women's Ice Hockey: Kelsey Cone Named ECAC East "Player Of The Week"
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Norwich sophomore women's ice hockey player Kelsey Cone was selected as the ECAC East "Player of the Week" after helping the Cadets to a pair of big home wins last weekend, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Cone led the Norwich offense with three goals and two assists over the weekend. The Manchester, Vt., product scored one goal and added an assist in NU's 2-0 win over UMass-Boston on Friday night. Then on Saturday, she scored two third-period goals, including the game-winning tally on an unassisted short-handed marker early in the period, to lift Norwich past Salve Regina, 5-3. Cone added an assist on Sophie Leclerc's game-tying goal versus the Seahawks.
For the season, Cone ranks tied for the team lead with 11 goals, while listing second on the club in assists (14) and points (25).
Norwich (10-7-1, 9-5-1 ECAC East) is unbeaten in its last six games, with four shutouts during that span. The Cadets are currently leading the ECAC East Division B with 19 points, six points better than MIT. NU will look to extend its six-game unbeaten streak tonight (Feb. 3) when the Cadets travel to Rutland, Vt., to battle conference rival Castleton State. Faceoff is slated for 7 p.m.
