Women’s Hockey: Fisk, Fortier earn ECAC East weekly awards after record-setting weekends
NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore goalie Kelly Fisk and senior forward Julie Fortier each picked up a weekly honor from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East on Monday night for their efforts last week to help lead the Norwich women's ice hockey team to a 3-0 week.
Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) picked up her first ever ECAC East Goalie of the Week honor after earning all three wins for Norwich between the pipes this past week. She made 55 of 58 saves on the week, including a perfect combined 34-for-34 against Salve Regina and Holy Cross to post back-to-back shutouts on Friday and Saturday.
Fisk backstopped the Cadets to a 5-3 win over No. 4-ranked Middlebury on Tuesday as well. Overall, she is 15-1-0 on the year with a 1.34 goals against average and a .924 save percentage. Her two shutouts to close the regular season pushed her season total to seven, which continues to set the pace for the program single-season shutouts record.
Fortier was named the ECAC East Player of the Week for the third time this season after scoring two goals and adding three assists for five points on the week.
She continued her record-setting senior season by snatching another program record away from Sophie Leclerc on Friday against Salve Regina. Fortier picked up the second assist on Sarianne Lynn's eventual game-winning goal, which gave Norwich a 1-0 lead and set the new program career points record at 164 points, eclipsing Leclerc's previous mark of 163.
Fortier also scored the game-winning goal the following day against Holy Cross to help lift the Cadets to a 2-0 win over the Division I Crusaders in the regular season finale.
Overall, Fortier continues to lead all of Division III with 26 goals and 21 assists for 47 points on the year. She is also currently tied with Leclerc for the single-season goals record and is only eight points away from breaking the program single-season points record, which were both set last season.
Fortier has 88 goals and 79 assists for 167 career points now. Her career goals total ranks eighth on the all-time Division III charts, while her points total is tied for 10th all-time with UMass-Boston's Andrea Ciarletta. Elmira College's Laura Hurd holds the NCAA D-III all-time career goals (120) and points (237) records.
Norwich (22-2-1, 17-0-1) closed the regular season on an eight-game winning streak and wrapped up its second straight ECAC East regular season title. The Cadets have finished unbeaten in conference play in back-to-back seasons and currently hold a 39-game unbeaten streak against league opponents in the regular season.
NU will open up its quest for its third ECAC East Tournament title in the last four seasons on Saturday, Feb. 25 when the Cadets host Nichols College at 3 p.m. at Kreitzberg Arena in the quarterfinal round.
