NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich women's ice hockey team raised $2,600 on Saturday, Jan. 28 for the Professor Carol E. Stephens Memorial Scholarship Fund during their third annual "Cadets Skate For The Cure" game at Kreitzberg Arena.

The final total came from jar donations, a 50/50 raffle and an $820 donation by the Northfield Amateur Hockey Association through various fundraisers of its own.

For the third year in a row the Cadets wore special-edition pink jerseys for the game in an effort to "Pink the Rink" against New England College. The nationally No. 2-ranked Cadets downed the Pilgrims 7-1 and after Sunday's win over Castleton currently sit with a 16-2-1 overall record on the season.

Pink T-shirts donated by Chouinard were passed out to the 387 fans in attendance for the game.

Before the game, there was a ceremonial puck drop featuring members of Carol Stephens' family, as well as Norwich captain Melissa Rundlett and New England College captain Kate Kellar.

Sponsors for the event were Chouinard, Norwich Maroon & Gold Athletic Association (MGAA), Image Outfitters and the Norwich Blue Line Club.

About the Professor Carol E. Stephens Memorial Fund:

Earlier this year, Norwich Engineering Professor Carol E. Stephens lost her long courageous battle with breast cancer. Carol's commitment to her students and strong work ethic touched the lives of so many people in the Norwich Community. Even during her final months, she still found the strength and energy to serve her students as her greatest strength was in her personal determination to make every student succeed to their highest potential.

She was truly an example of the Norwich Motto "I Will Try"!

In an effort to honor her and the impact she had on so many; students, family and friends began fundraising to establish the Professor Carol E. Stephens Memorial Fund. This award once fully endowed will perpetually assist Norwich engineering students, just as Carol did personally since 1996.
