NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team opened the 2016-17 season with a dominant 5-0 victory over Salve Regina in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Friday night.
Freshman Linnea Odbratt (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored twice in her collegiate debut to lead the Norwich offense. Sophomore Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) and freshman Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist as well.
After a scoreless first period, Conway scored her first collegiate goal on the power play at the 11:31 mark off an assist from Labbe. Just over a minute later Schwenzfeier increased the lead to 2-0 off assists from Rossini and Tiberi.
Odbratt scored an unassisted tally at the 15:08 mark of the second period with her first collegiate goal on a 4-on-4.
Labbe scored an unassisted goal at the 4:17 mark of the third period to push the lead to 4-0. Odbratt capped the scoring with the Cadets' third power play goal of the game with 30 seconds left off an assist from Conway.
Norwich outshot Salve Regina 76-13 and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Senior Celeste Robert (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) stopped all 13 shots she faced to pick up her 16th career shutout and tied Cindy Fortin '11 for the program career shutout record.
The Cadets return to action on Saturday at 3 p.m. when it travels to the Playland Ice Casino to take on Manhattanville.
Norwich is now 98-3-2 in its last 103 conference regular season games. The Cadets have won six straight NEHC regular season titles.
