HARRISVILLE, R.I. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team hung eight goals on its opponent for the second straight game as the Cadets' offense stayed hot in an 8-0 win over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at Levy Rink.
Junior defenseman and reigning NEHC Player of the Week Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C.) led the Cadets with three assists while classmate Erin Joyce (Manchester, N.H.) scored a pair of goals. Norwich outshot the Bison 54-11 for the game – including 21-5 in the final period.
The Cadets saw 13 different student-athletes record points in the game, scoring three goals in the first period, one in the second, and four goals over the final stanza.
Freshmen Kelley Madden (Novelty, Ohio) and Caitlin Heale (Dunedin, New Zealand) each scored their first collegiate goals in the victory. Madden's goal at the 8:12 mark of the first period proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Bison fall to 0-14-0 against the Cadets and this is the 12th time they have been shutout by Norwich. This marks the last time Norwich and Nichols will meet as conference opponents in the regular season as Nichols will be joining the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) next season.
Norwich improved to 6-1-0, 6-0-0 NEHC with the victory, while Nichols fell to 0-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.
The Cadets return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 when they travel to Elmira for a huge non-conference showdown with the No. 3-ranked Soaring Eagles.
