Women's Lacrosse: Daniels And Pickel Earn GNAC Weekly Awards
NORTHFIELD, Vt. -The Norwich University women's lacrosse team went 2-0 last week, and two of its players were recognized by the GNAC for strong performances as Ally Daniels was named the conference "Player of the Week" and Kellie Pickel was selected as the league's "Goalie of the Week."
Daniels, who has earned "Player of the Week" honors twice now this spring, scored nine goals and added nine assists in the two games. The sophomore from Concord, N.H., began her productive week by scoring six goals and handing out two assists in NU's 13-8 win over in-state rival Castleton State on Wednesday. Then, on Friday, Daniels netted three goals and dished out seven assists in the Cadets' 18-9 victory over conference foe Pine Manor.
Daniels, who added six goals and four assists in the team's 21-9 victory over St. Joseph's (Maine) on Monday (April 21) in the team's regular season finale, leads the team with 51 goals, 27 assists and 78 points this season.
Pickel, who has now picked up "Goalie of the Week" laurels three times this spring, backstopped Norwich's win over Castleton State, making 13 saves and only allowing eight goals.
For the season, Pickel leads the Cadets with 79 saves, a .552 save percentage and a 10.40 goals-against average.
The Cadets, who are the No. 2 seed in the GNAC Tournament, host third-seeded Lasell in a semifinal contest on Wednesday, April 23, at 4 p.m.
